A Fire Advisory is now in effect. The wildfire danger for the Grande Prairie Forest Area is VERY HIGH. 

Gusty wind and crossover conditions are forecast for today. Always check the weather and fire danger conditions before you work or travel in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. Take extra caution in areas that have abundant grass and dry vegetation. Keep watch of your surroundings and ensure you have sufficient firefighting equipment and water available.

Fire Advisory
 
A fire advisory is in effect for the Grande Prairie Forest Area section of the Forest Protection Area due to forecasted high temperatures and low relative humidity.
 
Under this advisory:
  • Current permits are suspended.
  • No new fire permits will be issued until conditions improve.
 
Prohibited:
  • Any burning, other than a campfire, is prohibited.
 
Allowed:
  • Safe wood campfires. *
  • Backyard fire pits.
  • Portable propane fire pits.
  • Gas or propane stoves and barbecues.
  • Catalytic or infrared-style heaters.
    *Safe wood campfires - should be within a metal, brick, or rock fire ring.
 

Wildfire Situation

Since March 1, 2021 there have been 49 wildfires burning nearly 63 hectares in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. For more information on the current wildfire situation across the province of Alberta visit wildfirestatus.alberta.ca

Recent dry conditions have increased the potential for Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) fires to occur, the hot areas on your OHV can collect grass and other debris and start a wildfire. Clean your ride regularly throughout the day and carry a bucket with you in the event of a starting a wildfire. 
 

Fire Permits

Effective June 22, 2021 at 1300hrs. A fire advisory is in effect, all active permits are suspended including burn barrels and no new fire permits will be issued until conditions change. Check Alberta Fire Bans for the most up to date information on advisories, restrictions and bans in your area. Anyone living outside the FPA can contact their municipality for information about local fire permit requirements.
 
From March 1st until October 31st, fire permits are required for any burning except campfires in the Forest Protection Area (FPA).
